Shining a light on Christmas cheer
Christmas cheer came early for three Pretty Pool families, who were crowned champions of the Festival Lights and Decoration Competition last week.
In a clean sweep for the leafy suburb, the Perkins family took home the crown for best display at their 5 Pennings Court prop-erty, while the Flatt family were named runner-up for their 17 Panjya Parade display.
A clear theme of showing off who had the biggest Santa shone through, but one family, the Finaughtys took another route, winning the sustainability category for their quality over quantity solar-powered display at 14 Cooper Place.
Fresh off the Festive Lights Express Bus, Town of Port Hedland commissioner Fred Riebeling said he was delighted with the effort put into the displays.
“It was really exciting to see how creative people got in demonstrating their festive feelings,” he said.
“We had 21 nominees this year and it was a very close call to pick the best of the bunch.
“I’d like to congratulate all of the finalists who have brought an extra bit of joy to Hedland over the festive season and I encourage everyone to check out the displays if they haven’t already done so.”
The people’s choice category winner will be announced on Saturday, December 21 at the Twilights Movies session in the Civic Centre Gardens.
Voting for the award is open until 5pm, Friday, December 20.
