The Shire of East Pilbara awarded more than $200,000 in community grants during 2025-26, supporting local clubs, groups and organisations across Newman, Marble Bar, Nullagine and surrounding communities.

Supported projects included $7000 to the Newman Netball Association to support its 50 Years of Newman Netball celebrations, $10,000 to the Marble Bar Race Club for the 2026 Marble Bar races and $8000 to the Royal Life Saving Society WA for the Newman multicultural swimming and water safety project.

Other recipients supported through the 2025-26 community grants program included Newman Community Centre, Newman Daycare Centre, Saints Football and Sporting Club, Newman Senior High School, Pilbara for Purpose, Newman Cricket Association, Newman Clay Target Club, Ngurra Kujungka, The Box Newman, Newman Bloody Slow Games, Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and East Pilbara Race Club.

Shire president Anthony Middleton said the grants helped turn local ideas into real outcomes that strengthened community life in the East Pilbara.

“Our community groups and volunteers do an enormous amount of work across the region,” Mr Middleton said.

“These grants support the activities, events and projects that bring people together, including sport, youth programs, cultural events, safety initiatives and major regional race days.

“In a region as large as ours, it is often local volunteers who create the things that make our towns vibrant. The shire is proud to back that effort.”

Mr Middleton said the diversity of projects funded this year reflected the strength of community activity across the East Pilbara.

“From major regional events to grassroots programs, these grants support the things that matter to local people,” Mr Middleton said.

“On behalf of the shire, I congratulate all recipients and thank the volunteers and organisations who continue to give their time and energy to our communities.”
