Dampier Sharks have secured their spot in the finals series of the 2017 North Pilbara Football League.

Travelling up to South Hedland, the Sharks had a solid win, beating the Swans 11.20 (86) to 8.12 (60).

Unsurprisingly, the South Hedland Swans used their speed to their advantage when they got hold of the football.

However, their nervous aim got the better of them again with a behind-heavy scoreboard for the birds of flight.

The excellent game structure and superior skills of the Sharks helped them take control of the game going into the second half.

Dampier Sharks’ David Walley and Travis Murpher were the game leaders for the frontrunners, while Alex Fraunfelter and Podge Bannon tried in vain to keep the Swans on the scoreboard. Dampier Sharks coach Beau McDonald said he was very proud of his players.

However, he said he was not surprised at the win.

“We went up to Hedland confident and now we can continue that confidence looking into the finals,” MacDonald said.

“We’ve now got a full squad going into finals, so going forward we’ve got our eyes on the prize and it should be a good finals competition.”

However, despite the loss, all is not over for the South Hedland Swans.

The loss for the Rovers means the Swans have secured fourth place on the ladder, mean-ing they will still head into the finals.

This will give coach and Swans mentor Troy Melville something to look forward to on his return.

Next week both teams head into round 1 of the finals series, as South Hedland Swans take on Karratha Kats and Dampier Sharks face the Wickham Wolves.
