An Auskick clinic took place on June 1 at Kevin Scott Oval, with South Hedland Swans and Port Hedland Rovers’ players helping out the aspiring junior footballers. More than 50 children participated in the clinic and parents lent a helping hand with drills and games. Port Hedland Rovers footballers Riley Jupp, Bailey Minnisale and Ben Staunton assisted with the clinic. Hedland Auskick co-ordinator Shane Fletcher said it was great to have the players there. “The Rovers boys helped out a lot and handled it really well,” he said. “Having the players helps to spread out the groups.” Fletcher said he has focused on involving parents at the clinics. “Sometimes parents don’t get involved because a lot of the times they don’t get asked,” he said. “We introduced a dodgeball game with the parents and the kids to try and keep them engaged.” The Auskick footballers also played during half-time at a Rovers game this season.
