Port Hedland’s annual carnival, Spinifex Spree, returned this year with the town coming out in droves to create the biggest event in the festival’s history. Featuring more entertainment, food, and rides than ever before, this year the event also introduced the Loco Lounge, a hightop circus tent that featured world-renowned performers. During the event’s opening speech, Mayor Peter Carter said that this year’s festival was set to be the largest in its long history. “Welcome to Spinifex Spree, running since 1968 as the Town’s largest free community event,” he said, “This year the Spinifex Spree is bigger than ever.” “We’ve got nearly 60 stallholders plus and 20 plus food vendors – lots are new this year.” The Loco Lounge featured performances from Dr Hubble Bubble, the Pitts Family Circus, Wonderland, and the adults-only Cake. While the annual event has come and gone, later this month they can look forward to the all-new Odyssea - Hedland Music and Arts Journey which runs over two weekends from August 19 to 27.
