Studio to celebrate WA
Hedland’s Spinifex Hill Studio will become a hive of activity this long weekend at a free WA Day festival.
On Monday, from 11am, people are invited to the studios for a day of live music, entertainment, art, food and culture and to celebrate all things West Australian.
Punters can enjoy getting hands-on and creative at workshops and activities run by Spinifex Hill artists.
Elle Campbell will host a cloth-painting workshop, Fiona Gavino will teach basic weaving skills and Andrew Christie will show off his whittling skills and make objects out of recycled and local timber.
There will also be a bush barbecue hosted by Hedland Hockey club and performances by local musicians.
WA Day festivals are happening all over the State, encouraged by State Government agency Celebrate WA, which promotes and organises events for the annual holiday to encourage State pride.
Celebrate WA chairman Michael Anghie said he wanted as many people as possible to get out, celebrate and enjoy WA Day.
“It is only suitable that the Port Hedland festivities are held at the Spinifex Hill Studios, as it highlights the wealth of local culture, artwork and talent in the Port Hedland community which the studio is well-known for,” he said.
