Tarp system covers landfill

After a successful trial this month, South Hedland Landfill will now have a permanent Tarp Armor system in place.

The system will use a motorised tarpaulin cover that will be fitted over landfill machines to cover waste on a daily basis.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco said he was pleased with the addition to the landfill facility. “The Tarp system will protect the environment surrounding the landfill from excess dust and flyaway rubbish, in turn protecting the range of wildlife we have living in this area,” he said.

“Not only does the Tarp have significant environmental benefits, but it will also have a positive impact on operating costs and extend the life of our communities’ landfill facilities as it has reduced the amount of cover materials required in open areas.”
