Taxi rank trial to begin

Taylar AmoniniNorth West Telegraph

This coming Monday will see the official opening of the new South Hedland taxi rank as the three month trial kicks off.

The taxi rank will close at 8pm this Sunday night for the reopening on Wise Terrace.

The new location will be in place for three months as a trial occurs to determine whether antisocial behaviour will be reduced surrounding the South Hedland Shopping Centre.

The relocation comes after Local police said the taxi rank was a point of difficulty for them as it did not allow for the issue of the necessary move-on notices due to disorderly individuals stating they are waiting for taxis.

The decision for the relocation came after last months council meeting, since then the Town has undertaken works at the new locations including tree removal, paving, relocation of seating, installation of new signage and CCTV cameras.
