Teen star riders take on national championships
Two Hedland BMX star athletes have returned from the BMX Australian National Championships in Brisbane.
Chelsea Kilmartin, 17, and James Wise, 17, have been training for months leading up to the titles but because of the recent heavy rainfall that damaged the track they had to travel to Karratha for some track practice.
The committed pair had a lot of competition with riders all over Australia competing to be the country’s number one.
Both competitors were among the younger age group of their competitors in the 17-24 class. Chelsea placed third in her first moto and came sixth in her other two motos, unfortunately not qualifying for the quarterfinals.
James’ moto results were second and third and first which got him into the quarterfinals only to come down with two other riders on one of the berms.
He ended up being ranked 12th in his age class which was a huge achievement for his first national title competition.
The pair are now set to compete with a large contingent of Hedland BMX Club in the first round of the North West Super Series on May 13.
