The strong partnership between the Banjima and Perth Football Club will bring sport to the Karijini Experience

It’s known and loved for its amazing music, arts, and scenery but this year the Karijini Experience will also feature one of the WA’s favourite pastime activities — footy. At this year’s event, the Perth Football Club will be leading a series of clinics that will develop people’s football abilities while improving their teamwork and leadership skills as well. Community engagement manager at Perth Football Club Oscar Bird said the workshops were made possible by the long relationship between the Banjima Native Title Organisation and the Club. “The Banjima people, over the past three years, have developed a relationship with the Perth Football Club and they’ve been able to invest in getting an Aboriginal liaison officer and Aboriginal engagement manager at the Club. “As a result, we’ve been able to progress our Indigenous engagement as a football club. “Part of that has extended the opportunity to come up and be part of the Karijini Experience which is on Banjima land.” Mr Bird, as a current player, will run the sessions alongside teammate James Ewing and former player Jared Bell. The sessions will take place at the Tom Price Airstrip on Thursday, July 6 and Saturday, July 8 at the Karijini Experience. Mr Bird said the club was excited to take part in such a culturally significant event. “It’s a great opportunity to see what the rest of the state has to offer. “Our workshop will be in an experience that features such culturally significant programs so it’s a real privilege,” he said. “Hopefully, we can do our best to make sure all the participants enjoy what we have to offer.”
