A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of the Pilbara, Midwest-Gascoyne and Goldfields-Midlands regions.

The Bureau of Meteorology has advised a cloud band is travelling over the North West and severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area with the possibility of hail and heavy rainfall.

Locations which may be affected include Kiwirrkurra and Giles, and residents in the North Interior and South interior districts are warned to take action and stay safe.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises people to take shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams, and for those instead to unplug electrical appliances and stay away from windows.

Drivers are advised to not to enter water of unknown depth, slow down, turn headlights on and be alert for hazards on the road such as fallen powerlines and loose debris.

No roads have been closed, however drivers are advised to take extra care.
