Tri basketball tournament brings together top talent from across the Pilbara

The annual Pilbara Tri Basketball tournament has once again brought together elite athletes from across the region to compete to see which town has the best hoopers. The competition, which features teams from Karratha, Port Hedland and Newman compete, was hosted this year by the Karratha Filipino Sports Community at the City Leisureplex on August 27. The games were attended by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel who said the tournament showcased great sportsmanship between the rival towns and helped build a region-wide sports community. “The spirit of sportsmanship and skill was enjoyed by all and the first final between the Karratha B Team and Newman B Team was a great game,” he said. “The finals between Karratha and Newman were very intense. “I would like to thank President Raul Bato from the Karratha Filipino Sports Community, its members, and all the community for coming together and sharing their homes and cooking food for the players and their families.” Karratha won the tournament after beating Newman in an intense match, which Mr Michel said was a competitive back-and-forth contest. The regional tournament, which rotates between the three Pilbara towns, will be hosted in Port Hedland next year.
