Two wins apiece for the Kats and Hedland in the best-and-fairest medal count, including a dramatic tie

The South Hedland Swans and Blazers and Karratha Kats have split the North Pilbara Football League best-and-fairest medal count with two each including a dramatic tie in the women’s competition. It was Kats’ player Natha Bravington who took out the De Gray Medal for the best-and-fairest league player as he finished with 20 votes and one ahead of his teammate Jackson Ramsay. The Matheson Medal for best reserves player was won by South Hedland’s Saika Bero with 13 votes, one ahead of Dampier’s Marcus O’Brien. In a dramatic and rare moment, Hedland’s Kirsty Kubala and Karratha Kats’ Ashleigh Greenwell tied on 19 votes each for the women’s Creighton Medal, with both women having to split the award. Before the ceremony, Swans reserves coach Jacob Sanders said it was great to have two Hedland club members who looked like they were going to win the best-and-fairest award. “I think it just shows the depth of our footy club to have players playing on that level,” he said. The competition’s leading goal kickers ended with Dampiers’ Guy Langdon and Shane McIntosh leading the league and reserves respectively. Brodhi Woods from the Karratha Kats kicked the most goals in the women’s competition.
