Unlawful killing trial continues
A witness who was at the Newman Hotel the night a 45-year-old man died after being bashed gave evidence in court this morning.
Saimone Lausii Kala, 29, and Oueni Pomana, 47, are on trial for unlawful killing under circumstances as not to constitute murder after an incident in August 2016.
It is alleged Mr Kala punched bystander Nathan Haynes after a fight broke out outside the Newman Hotel.
It is alleged Mr Pomana then “soccer kicked” Mr Haynes in the head, “snapping” his head back and killing him.
Prosecution witness Lindsey Fish, 32, provided evidence yesterday and said he saw Mr Kala punch Mr Haynes, who he referred to as “the bald man,” before he was kicked by Mr Pomana.
He said the pair walked away when “the bald man” was on the ground breathing “abnormally” and being administered CPR.
A large number of other witnesses will give evidence in the trial, which is expected to conclude on March 22.
