South Hedland awoke to a sky covered in smoke from a vehicle fire just south of the town on Thursday, August 3. The fire was reported at 7.13am at the intersection of Yarrie Road and Collier Drive in South Hedland, with emergency services responding to the scene. A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the fire had spread to the surrounding bushland. “The fire has spread to the surrounding bush, and there is a lot of fog in the area,” they said. “The vehicle fire impacted the surrounding scrub and is 100 x 100 metres in size.” Earlier this week the North West Telegraph reported a small earthquake had hit the town on Monday.
