Newman and Port Hedland are set to host two of the region’s biggest free WA Day community events, bringing together live music, family entertainment and interactive experiences across two weekends of free festival fun.

WA Day Festival in Newman

In Newman, festivities will take over Emu Oval on Sunday, June 7 from 3pm to 8.30pm, transforming the space into a vibrant community hub filled with music, rides, workshops and roving performers.

Celebrate WA Chairman Scott Jones said the Newman event would bring WA Day to life through music, activities and community connection.

“Newman is a community with a strong local identity, and this festival is designed to bring people together in a way that feels welcoming, energetic and distinctly Pilbara,” Mr Jones said.

“With live entertainment, family activities and fireworks, the event gives locals and visitors a chance to celebrate WA Day in the heart of the community.”

A major drawcard will be the live music lineup, headlined by local favourite DJ Viv alongside Adrian Dzvuke and Feel Estate. Fresh from supporting Coldplay, Adrian Dzvuke will bring his signature blend of RnB and afrobeats to the Pilbara stage, while Feel Estate’s immersive fusion of live brass, electronic beats and soulful energy is expected to turn the oval into a festival-style dancefloor.

Families can expect far more than just live music, with the event also featuring free rides including a Ferris wheel, bouncy castle and ride-on cars, plus a packed schedule of hands-on activities throughout the afternoon.

Scitech STEM activations will give kids the chance to experiment, build and solve engineering challenges, while circus workshops will invite young festivalgoers to test their skills with juggling, spinning plates, hula hoops and interactive circus play.

Across the precinct, stilt walkers, light-up performers and roaming entertainers will add to the atmosphere, while a silent disco will provide another way for visitors of all ages to get involved in the celebration.

Footy fans will also have the chance to connect with one of WA’s most recognisable sporting clubs through a special West Coast Eagles activation featuring mascots, skills sessions and children’s activities.

The night will culminate in a fireworks finale lighting up the Newman sky, closing out what is expected to be one of the town’s biggest community celebrations of the year.

WA Day Festival in Port Hedland

A week later, WA Day festivities will head to Port Hedland, with the newly developed Spoil Bank Marina set to host a major waterfront celebration on Sunday, June 14 from 3pm to 8.30pm.

The event will showcase the marina precinct as it comes alive with live music, family entertainment and fireworks over the ocean.

Celebrate WA Chairman Scott Jones said the Port Hedland event reflected the importance of regional communities in WA Day celebrations.

“WA Day is about celebrating the people and communities that make our state what it is, and Port Hedland has a strong sense of identity and community spirit,” Mr Jones said.

“Events like this provide an opportunity for locals to come together, connect and celebrate in a unique setting.”

The Port Hedland program will feature performances from Lilly Gogos, whose gospel-inspired blend of country, blues and soul has built a growing following across WA, alongside the high-energy sounds of Feel Estate and a broader lineup of local DJs and entertainers.

As the afternoon transitions into evening, the marina precinct will be filled with interactive experiences designed to appeal to all ages.

Scitech will once again deliver hands-on STEM activities and engineering challenges, while Fliptease performers will host circus workshops and illuminated stilt walkers create a striking visual spectacle along the waterfront.

The West Coast Eagles will also feature heavily in the celebrations with a community activation including a handball competition, colouring-in tent and merchandise giveaways.
