Wanderers secure two wins in dominant showing in round six

Round six of the Port Hedland Cricket Association’s Senior Men’s Cricket competition, played out this week across Colin Matherson and Kevin Scott Ovals, saw Wanderers emerging as the big winners of the round, securing two victories.

Wanderers began their winning streak in a one-day match on November 12.

Facing the Hedland Lions on Colin Matherson Oval, Wanderers set a formidable target, posting 6-187 in their 35 overs while the Hedland Lions struggled to match them, being dismissed for just 78 in 24.1 overs, handing Wanderers a comfortable victory.

Trae Pollard led Wanderers’ batting with an impressive 76 runs while Fawad Khan led the Lions with 21 runs.

Alex Pullannimannil Samuel led Wanderers with the ball, claiming five wickets while Fawad Khan also led the Lions in bowling by taking four wickets.

Wanderers followed the win with another impressive display against Port Hedland Cricket Club at Colin Matherson Oval on November 15.

Batting first, the Wanderers compiled 1-200 in 32.1 overs.

Port Hedland put up a respectable fight in response, but ultimately fell short, finishing their innings at 9-195 after 35 overs, ensuring Wanderers collected their second win of the round.

Trae Pollard again led Wanderers in batting with 92 not out while Trent Morley led Port Hedland with 39 not out.

Dylan Brown claimed the most wickets for Wanderers with three while Joshua Cooper led Port Hedland’s bowling with one wicket.

Elsewhere in the competition, Mines were victorious in a tightly contested match with against Rovers on November 14.

Rovers set a competitive total of 6-180 in their 35 overs, but Mines managed to surpass the target with overs to spare, finishing at 5-182 off 28.3 overs.

Raziegh Mohammed Zain led Mines’ batting with a score of 64 runs while Liam O’Neill led Rovers with 60 runs.

Daniel Lockley, Ashley Hughes, Mathew Barnesby-Johnson, Declan Lockley, Riley Dawson and Andrew Cusick all took one wicket each for Mines while Liam O’Neill also led Rovers with the ball with two wickets.

South Hedland dominated Hedland Lions at Kevin Scott Oval on November 15.

South Hedland recorded an impressive score of 8-322 in their 35 overs. which Hedland Lions failed to match, scoring just 61 in 17.2 overs, resulting in a convincing win for South Hedland.

Thomas Christides led South Hedland in batting with a massive 115 runs not out while Fawad Khan again led the Hedland Lions with 22 runs.

Praveena Bhat managed was the leading wicket taker for South Hedland with five while Fawad Khan stood out for the Lions with three wickets.
