Wealth of programs aimed at keeping young people busy
The Term 2 program at the JD Hardie Youth Zone has begun, offering children and young people plenty of activities to enjoy.
This term’s program will run until June 29 and cater to a variety of interests.
Kids Club at the JD runs Monday- Friday from 8.30am-11.30am for ages zero to kindergarten.
The Lounge is on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3pm-5pm for 12-14-year-olds, and from 5pm-7pm for those 15 years and older.
At the Lounge, young people can enjoy games, movies, craft, pool competitions, music and karaoke in a chilled out zone.
South Side Sk8 will run every Thursday from 5pm-8pm at the South Hedland Skate Park, with music, refreshments, games, competitions and prizes on offer.
Town of Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco believes the program is integral to keeping children safe.
“Making sure young people have a safe space to play at night is vital in helping to reduce antisocial behaviour,” he said.
Several local community organisations will also be running activities throughout the term, including dance, taekwondo and roller skating.
