Yearly tribute to crash victims

The date has been set and preparations have begun for this year’s annual Bloody Slow Cup.

Held in Newman every year in commemoration of local officers who lost their lives while on duty 16 years ago, this year’s friendly rugby competition will be held on October 21.

Newman police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Fleskens said preparations had already begun and he encouraged the community to get involved.

“It takes a lot of man hours to ensure the event runs smoothly and many hands will be needed to help along the way,” he said.

“Some of the organisation for the event has already started and my staff at the police station are all keen to help.”

To help organise or become a sponsors of the event, email BSCnew man@police.wa.gov.au or phone the Newman Police Station on 9175 4000.
