Young players show skills

The All Hedland Basketball Association has kicked the season off with a bang, with a number of young aspiring basketballers turning out to put their best skills forward.
Last week’s match saw a great standard of play between the under-11 teams Magic and Wildcats, with Magic winning a close game 21-18.
The association was set up by presidents Janelle Cabrie and Tracy Pickett in an effort to provide youth in the Hedland community with a chance to build on teamwork and sportsmanship.
Mr Pickett said it was important for our youth to trial as many different sports as possible to gain different skills.
“I feel basketball is the greatest for our youths as it is the most compact and kids get way more involved in the game,” he said.
Two under-11 games and under-13 matches take place at Wanangkura Stadium every Tuesday as well as an Aussie Hoops competition from 3pm, for children aged between five and eight.
The games will run through to the end of first school term next year. Those interested in registering their children in the program can contact the All Hedland Basketball Association on Facebook.
