A house fire in Wedgefeild that caused about $250,000 damage on Easter Monday is being treated as suspicious by police.

The fire started about 2pm and workers from surrounding businesses tried to contain it before seven fire crews attended the scene from the Hedland Bush Fire Brigade, South Hedland Volunteer Fire Brigade and Port Hedland Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Firefighters needed to use breathing appartus to access the building and assisted one man.

St John’s Ambulance reported the occupant of the Carlindie Way property and another man were transported to Hedland Health Campus for respiratory checks.
