Man drowns while snorkelling at Exmouth’s Turquoise Bay

A 30-year-old man has drowned while snorkelling off the Exmouth coast during a camping trip with friends.

The Carnarvon man was with a group of five at Turquoise Bay, 63 km from Exmouth, on Saturday when he went missing around midday.

Police and the Exmouth Volunteer Marine Rescue were called when the man was found face down in the off the reef.

Exmouth officer in charge Sergeant Craig Carter said police tried to revive him using CPR for an hour, but the man was declared dead at the scene.

Sgt Carter said the cause of death was yet to be determined but was not considered suspicious.

He said the man and his friends had travelled from Carnarvon to Turquoise Bay to go camping.

“The Volunteer Marine Rescue did a fantastic job they were there within minutes of the call-out,” he said.
