If you’ve been searching for the best potato scallop in Australia then look no further than Exmouth, as a local fish and chip shop has taken out the title.

Accommodation booking site Wotif last week revealed its Uniquely Aussie Award winners designed to uncover the best of the best unique true-blue experiences.

This year’s categories included best bowls club, best markets, best schnitty, best holiday park, best big thing and best potato scallop which was won by Exmouth favourite Blue Lips Fish and Chips.

Blue Lips owner Adam Moir said he didn’t even realise he had been nominated.

“We had a bit of a laugh about it but it was a bit of a surprise,” he said. “We think we make pretty good potato cakes so to be acknowledged was a bit of a hoot. It’s good for the town of Exmouth too.”

Mr Moir said the secret recipe to perfection involved a number of different ingredients.

“We mash the potatoes up and then we use the Thermomix and add butter and leek and a few other secret bits and pieces and cream and mash it all together by hand and then we put it into egg rings and we freeze them and then we batter and fry them,” he said.

“They are really nice and crispy on the outside and on the inside it’s really yummy and creamy potato.

“They are exceptionally popular. We probably go through about 20kg of potatoes a week. Everyone loves them and we sell so many of them.”
