The history and culture of Karratha will be celebrated with two massive public art projects worth nearly $500,000 moving a step closer.

Water tank paintings, a major sculptural work, a small-scale sculpture trail, and a 2D mural are set to be created after the City of Karratha awarded the tenders for the two projects. The tenders were for the painting of a mural on the Karratha water tanks, and for the Walgu Park Mural.

The Karratha water tanks tender was awarded to Chris Nixon with an estimated total project cost of $178,000. Cheeditha Artists won the contract for the Walgu Park project, with a budgeted project cost of $300,000.

A city of Karratha spokesperson said the planned completion date was October.
