Falcons, Kats take out the wins in round two of the North Pilbara Football League Women’s competition

The Karratha Falcons hosted Wickham Wolves at Bulgarra Oval and delivered a football clinic to run away with the 72-point win. The North Pilbara Football League round two clash on April 29 saw Falcons get off to a flying start to lead 4.2 to 0 at the end of the first quarter. Wickham were able create pressure and slow down the Falcons’ attack in the second term but were unable to make any inroads into the score remaining scoreless at half-time. A fired-up Falcons came out after half-time, booting four straight goals in the third quarter before a further two in the final term saw the home side secure a crushing win. The final score did not make for pretty reading for Wickham fans, with Karratha Falcons defeating Wickham Wolves 11.6 (72) to 0.0 (0). Tara Poultney and Nina White were the top scorers for Karratha Falcons with three goals each. In the other round two game, Karratha Kats picked apart the Hedland Blazers in a grand final rematch. It was a scrappy first quarter with Kats controlling the ball but only managing five behinds at the first break. A low-scoring second quarter saw Kats keep the game in their 50 but scored just 1.5 to lead by 16 points at half-time. Kats were able to get their game going in the second half outscoring Blazers 5.5 to 0.1 to run away with the victory. In the end Karratha Kats downed Hedland Blazers 6.15 (51) to 0.1 (1) to remain unbeaten this season. The victory keeps Kats in first place on the ladder, four points ahead of their Bulgarra rivals Falcons in second while Dampier Sharks sit in third. Hedland Blazers are in fourth place ahead of Wickham on percentage. Round three of the NPFLW season will kick off on May 6.
