Half-price land boost

Land prices in the Pilbara have been slashed as part of a $116 million package to make land more affordable in regional WA. The Regional Land Booster package was announced last Wednesday by Lands Minister Ben Wyatt to make land more affordable for 1095 development-ready industrial, commercial, and residential lots across WA. As part of the announcement, the McGowan Government, through DevelopmentWA, will reduce the price of 376 vacant lots across nine projects in the Pilbara, including the Madigan estate in Karratha. Madigan currently has 23 available lots ranging from 350sqm to 650sqm, with prices slashed by $24,000 to start at $95,000. Other eligible Pilbara estates include Tambrey Mixed-Use, Gap Ridge Industrial and Gap Ridge Bulky Goods, Newman Residential, Onslow Residential, South Hedland’s Town Centre and Port Hedland’s Hedland Junction Industrial estate. Mr Wyatt said the package would slash prices of land by up to 50 per cent and support regional jobs through new residential and industrial developments. “The package is expected to provide further incentives for FIFO workers to relocate to WA, with Government grants and other initiatives making now the best time to build a house in WA,” he said. Mr Wyatt said increased land sales would secure a pipeline of work for the region’s building and construction sector and support regional jobs and suppliers. “It will also help support the establishment of new regional industrial, commercial, and tourism businesses,” he said. DevelopmentWA chief executive Frank Marra said there were more than 1100 available lots ready to build on in the State. TIMIK Developments supervisor Jos Darvall said the reductions in land cost would help build the local economy.
