Hedland beer lovers celebrate Oktoberfest in style
Beer lovers wore dirndls and lederhosen this month and headed to Civic Gardens in Port Hedland for North West Oktoberfest.
The festival, held on October 15, was organised by Stardeck Group and revellers enjoyed a range of cold beers, traditional foods, live music, fun competitions and a silent disco.
Entertainment options included indie-surf rock band Caravana Sun in their return to the Pilbara after a three-month European tour.
Speaking before the tour, bassist Ant Beard said the band brought plenty of experience of touring in Germany, which Beard said was exciting to bring to the fold.
“So I feel like there’s quite a good handle on — obviously we don’t know what the Karratha version’s gonna be like— but we’ve had a lot of good experience and pretty authentic ones over in Germany,” he said.
Ant said the North West had a “real connectedness” when it came to events.
“As a band, when it comes to writing music you’re always looking for connection with people and connection to communities, and for some reason, Caravana Sun has been quite synonymous with that whole part of the world,” he said.
“It’s both the shows and hanging out in the community that we love.”
