Karratha Falcons secured a much needed win over Dampier Sharks 3.6 (24) to 2.2 (14) in round eight of the North Pilbara Football League Women’s competition. Taking place on June 17 at Windy Ridge Oval, Dampier Sharks got off to a fast start in the low-scoring game taking a five-point lead at quarter-time. Falcons steadied in the second quarter to snatch the lead while restricting the Sharks to just one point in the second term. Karratha maintained control in the second half, extending their lead to 10 points and securing the win. The win keeps Falcons in fourth place on the ladder, tied with the Sharks and just four points behind second-placed Hedland Blazers. Meanwhile in the other round eight game, Hedland Blazers fought back against a gritty Wickham Wolves to secure a victory. Wolves stormed out of the gates to take a 10-point lead at the main break at Wickham Oval. But the Blazers, who made it all the way to the grand final last season, held their nerve and cut the deficit to just four points by three-quarter-time. It was all Blazers in the final term with the visiting side booting 1.4 while keeping Wickham scoreless to secure an important victory on the road. The final score was Blazers 3.6 (24) to Wolves 3.0 (18). The Karratha Kats had their second bye of the season but remain two games clear in first place on the ladder.
