I get a lot of comments about how amazing our new Red Earth Arts Precinct looks as construction powers along.

This is pleasing because the council worked hard over many years to make this building something special.

We hope to be able to open it in May next year.

The REAP has a 400-seat theatre, two large rehearsal rooms and all necessary facilities.

The theatre is also designed to be used as a cinema.

The building will also contain our large new library, our local history collection, a separate rooftop cinema and function space, and the foyer walls will feature the winners of the Cossack Art Award.

We are very excited to have secured the annual Performing Arts Connections Conference for the REAP next year.

PAC is the national peak body representing and supporting performing arts presenters.

In the last two years PAC has held its conferences at the Arts Centre Melbourne and The Concourse in Sydney – the next one is in Karratha!

PAC Australia members present more than 50,000 events annually in an industry valued at $1.1 billion.

We are now part of this industry.

The conference itself will bring half a million dollars into our town and we will complement the event with a range of tours around our amazing country.

The arts are not only good for our own wellbeing, they have a very positive economic impact as well.
