Karratha Hockey welcomes new players to mixed competition

Karratha Hockey welcomed several new players to the Wednesday night mixed competition last week.

The night began with a training session that had players practising their passing, tackling and goal shooting skills.

The main game got underway at 7pm sharp with Steve Knight stepping in as umpire.

The yellow team employed a full court press which had the White team boxed in their defensive half for much of the first half.

New players Bradley Kavanagh and Rebecca Graham-Dawson played well for the white team and helped release the pressure put on by the opposition.

The second half saw both teams passing the ball really well and with this quick ball movement many goals were scored.

The honours for the night went to the White team who ran away with the win 11-7.

For the yellow team it was Shane Great-Rex and Bruce Towie who were best on ground.

The standard of hockey was very high and bodes well for the upcoming North West Hockey Championships which will be held in Karratha on August 7.

The North West Championships are a mixed competition and there is still time for any hockey players throughout the Pilbara to join in.
