Karratha Kats, Dampier Sharks, Port Hedland Rovers secure wins in round 15 of the NPFL season

After a competitive first half, the Karratha Kats ran out to victory over their cross-town rivals Karratha Falcons in the final round of the North Pilbara Football League regular season. The round 15 clash took place at Bulgarra Oval on August 19 with both sides battling hard for possession in the opening term. However, Kats made the most of their opportunities to lead 11-8 at quarter-time. In the second term the Kats extended their lead to 20 points at the main break, kicking 4.6 to the Falcons’ 2.1. It was in the second half that the Kats pounced and took control of the game, running away with the victory 13.20 (98) to 5.7 (37). Kats had eight individual goal kickers led by Nelson Whites (three goals). Alex Devitt, Dylan Hansen, Luke Pearson and Kevin Seelander all booted two goals each. Meanwhile, Riese Wilkey booted three for the Falcons and Kenton Smiler and Kyle Hart also scored for the homeside. In the other games, ladder leaders Dampier Sharks continued to run rampant over the competition, downing Wickham Wolves 11.15 (81) to 7.7 (49) to extend their winning streak to 14 games this season. Sharks took control in the opening term to lead by 19 points at the first break before Wickham wrestled their way back into the contest to trail by just two points at half-time. It was all Sharks in the second half, with the reigning premiers kicking 7.9 to Wolves’ 3.3 to take the win. Dampier’s Guy Langdon booted three goals for his side to continue his impressive form. Jesse Thomas booted two for the Wolves. In the final game of the round, Port Hedland Rovers faced off against South Hedland Swans at Colin Matheson Oval. The two Hedland teams wrestled for momentum in the opening term before the Rovers kicked it up a gear in the second term to lead by 38 points at half-time. Rovers continued to build on their momentum over the second half and defeated South Hedland Swans 12.10 (82) to 6.6 (46). Round one of the finals season starts on August 27 when Dampier Sharks go up against Karratha Kats while Wickham Wolves face off against Karratha Falcons. In the reserves, Dampier Sharks will battle against the Karratha Kats and Port Hedland Rovers will go up against South Hedland Swans
