Karratha Kats dispatch Port Hedland Rovers to move into second place in North Pilbara Football League

The Karratha Kats were back to their menacing best on the weekend, dispatching the Port Hedland Rovers by 55 points to leapfrog the Hedland franchise into second place. The game at Millars Well Oval got off to a slow start with both sides getting on the scoreboard early before Kats kicked their way to a 10-point lead at quarter time. The second term saw the Kats extend their control on the game, booting two goals while keeping their opponents goalless to lead by 19 points at the main break. A dominant attacking display from the Kats in the third quarter saw the side rip away any chance of a Rovers victory, with the home side booting 5.5 to the Rovers two goals. Determined to get a percentage-boosting win, the Kats ran out the game hard, kicking a further four goals in the final quarter to take a crushing 55-point victory. The final score was Karratha Kats 15.11 (101) defeating Port Hedland Rovers 6.10 (46). Kats’ Nelson White was the difference between the two sides, kicking six goals, while Rover Ashley Thornton slotted three goals for his team. In the reserves the Kats tore the Rovers to pieces by 76 points in an attacking masterclass. The Kats kept the Rovers goalless during the first half while kicking themselves to a 46-point lead at half time. A scrappy third term saw the Rovers boot their first goal of the game before the Kats rose to another level in the final quarter with five goals. In the end the Karratha Kats defeated Port Hedland Rovers 12.13 (85) to 1.3 (9).
