Karratha Kats down Wickham Wolves to make fourth North Pilbara Football League grand final in a row

The Karratha Kats are through to the big dance after an action packed preliminary final against Wickham Wolves that went down to the wire. The preliminary final took place on Saturday at Millars Well Oval with the winner to take on the dominant Dampier Sharks. It was all Wolves in the opening term, with the visitors keeping the ball in their attacking fifty for the majority of the quarter but wasting opportunities in front of goal. Wolves took an eight point lead at the first break, kicking 2.5 to the Kats 1.3. Kats showed their class after the break taking the lead on the back of a five goal effort in the second term to hold a seven point lead at half time. The intensity lifted in the third quarter with both sides battling hard to score with just one point seperating the two clubs. The back-and-forth game went down to the wire with the Kats holding on for the two point victory. In the end the Karratha Kats defeated Wickham Wolves 10.10 (70) to 10.8 (68). Michael Smith and Alex Devitt kicked four goals each for the Kats while their teammates Xavier Dhurrkay and Kevin Seelander booted a goal each. The victory means Karratha will take on the Dampier Sharks this weekend as they look to cause a major upset and take down the undefeated side. It marks the fourth year in a row the Kats have made the grand final with their last flag coming in 2018. Meanwhile Dampier will be looking to win their first premiership since 2009 and were last in a grandfinal in 2017.
