Baynton West Primary School students put their letter-writing skills to the test when they wrote to local member Kevin Michel to apply for new flags to be displayed on school grounds.

Mr Michel accepted their request and also donated a fourth flag pole, allowing the school to display the WA flag along with the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands flags.

The flags play an integral role in the students’ learning as they discuss WA heavily in the curriculum, while displaying the range of flags shows respect for Indigenous peoples.

BWPS deputy principal Toni Whitbread said the students gained a lot of experience writing the letter to Mr Michel.
