Labor promises $15m boost to Pilbara schools if re-elected

The State Government has committed close to $15 million to upgrade Pilbara schools if it is re-elected. Last week’s announcement would see Karratha’s Baynton West Primary School get $3.5m to expand, while Dampier Primary School would get $1m to upgrade its air-conditioning and refurbish the music hall while $750,000 would go to Tambrey Primary School to upgrade its bitumen. In South Hedland, Baler Primary School would get $5.5m and Cassia Primary School would receive $3.5m for a new classroom block. The announcement comes after a slew of promises by the State Government to boost education in the Pilbara, including a $355m plan to upgrade STEM facilities in schools across the State. The plans include a STEM classroom for Newman Senior High School and investment into science resources at primary schools, district high schools, and remote community schools across the Pilbara, including Port Hedland School Of The Air. Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel said the Government had invested millions across the Pilbara to support local schools over the past four years. “STEM will be the future driver of innovation as we reshape and recover WA’s economy, which is why we are committed to providing every student in the Pilbara with a STEM education.”
