McIntosh powers Dampier Sharks to 14th straight North Pilbara Football League victory

The Dampier Sharks reclaimed the Arlanyirtu Yirratharnangka Cup on Saturday night after decimating South Hedland Swans by 167 points to remain unbeaten this season. The Cup, created to celebrate the clubs’ relationship, is contested over the three games the teams play against each other in the season, with the winner of the majority taking home the prized trophy. The game on Saturday night at Windy Ridge Oval saw the Sharks come out firing in the opening quarter, stunning the Swans by kicking seven goals in the term. It was all Sharks from then on, with the shell-shocked Swans unable to muster up any offence. The home side booted five more goals in the second quarter while keeping the visitors goalless to lead by 75 points at the main break. The drubbing continued in the third quarter with the Sharks booting 9.4 while the Swans kicked their first two goals of the night. Sharks continued to score with ease during the final quarter, putting on a clinic to add another nine goals to their tally on the way to an emphatic victory over South Hedland Swans 30.15 (195) to 4.4 (28). Sharks’ Shane McIntosh led the way with a 10-goal bag while his teammate Guy Langdon booted eight. McIntosh now has an incredible 61 goals and leads the goal kickers’ tally by 33 over second-placed Clifford Burroughs from the Karratha Falcons. Dampier Sharks coach Steven Dodd said it was a good performance from the players. “We’ve had a pretty consistent year this year and we’ll enjoy the win now and then turn our heads to Falcons next week, which will be another big challenge,” Dodd said. “We’ll make sure to continually keep playing the way we want to play.” The Sharks overpowered the Swans 10.14 (74) to 6.4 (40) in the reserves.
