Nearly 280 tree’s planted across Karratha to mark National Tree Day

Karratha city will soon burst with vibrant new greenery as over 270 tree’s were planted on Wednesday, to mark National Tree Day. This effort is part of the City’s Street Tree Program, which has received a significant boost through a $200,000 sponsorship from Bechtel and MCS, advancing the program by nearly a decade. The initiative aims to mitigate urban heat, create a shaded green corridor throughout Karratha, and encourage greater use of local footpaths. The funding will support the planting of approximately 276 trees at four locations: Bathgate Road, Bayview Road, and Dampier Highway. Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott expressed his gratitude for the support. “Our Street Tree Program helps to provide shade throughout Karratha and reduce heat in our City,” Mayor Scott said “I’d like to thank Bechtel and MCS for their donation which will see more than 270 trees planted in four locations. “This will help encourage residents to use our footpaths as well as enhancing the beauty of our town site.” Bechtel’s Site Manager for Pluto Train 2 Terry Klowss highlighted the company’s commitment to community impact. “When we were looking for an initiative in the community to contribute to, we couldn’t go past the City’s plans for greening Karratha,” Mr Klowss said. “We are incredibly proud to support this tree planting program. At Bechtel, it’s our promise to leave behind a positive legacy in the communities where we operate. We hope the program will create a greener, healthier environment for future generations.” Director of MCS and a long-time Karratha resident Ryan Sweeney echoed this sentiment. “We are excited to be a contributor to this campaign. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is at the core of our values, and through this initiative, we aim to make a significant positive impact on our City,” Mr Sweeney said.
