The Wolves showed their claws after the bye, crushing the Port Hedland Rovers by 39 points on the back of Nelson Ansey’s four-goal haul. A five-goal opening term for the Wickham Wolves welcomed the Rovers to Wickham Oval, with the home side seizing control of the game in the first quarter. The Rovers rallied in the second term cutting the deficit to 19 points to take back some momentum going into the main break. It was the Wolves who came out with their teeth bared in the second half, dominating the play and kicking seven goals to the Rovers four to run away with the game. In the end the Wickham Wolves proved too strong taking down the Port Hedland Rovers 13.14 (92) to 7.11 (53). Wolves’ Ansey guided his side to victory with his four goals and was well supported by teammate Tyson Nicholas, who booted three of his own, while Angelo Thomas kicked three goals for the Rovers. The win means the Wolves are tied with the Karratha Kats on 16 points, with percentage the only thing splitting the two teams battling to secure second spot on the ladder. In the reserves, an accurate Rovers took advantage of a wasteful Wolves to take the seven-point victory. The Rovers led during each break, booting 7.5 to the Wolves 5.10 to make the most of their inside 50’s. The final score was Port Hedland Rovers defeating Wickham Wolves 7.5 (47) to 5.10 (40).
