Indigenous businesses gathered together in Roebourne last week to showcase themselves, explore new opportunities and network with like-minded organisations.

The Pilbara Indigenous Business Network Group Trade Show was presented by Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and took place at Ngurin Cultural Centre in the heart of Roebourne.

Businesses from the construction, media, landscape and tourism were among those who attended the event which included a presentation followed by a trade show where business set up stalls and gave out information.

The event provided the chance for local businesses to network with industry and showcase their capabilities in the hopes of securing further opportunities.

KDCCI co-ordinator Kristina Delahunt said it was a great turnout from Indigenous businesses and local industry, with more than 70 people attending.

Ms Delahunt said the aim of the event was to increase connections and procurement opportunities for Indigenous businesses.

“Just confidence within themselves to go and pitch their business and having the capabilities statements here and having a chat with people and building that rapport with businesses and industry,” she said.

“There is so much going on in this space and there is so much opportunities for Indigenous businesses, so it’s getting the visibility around that because I think sometimes there is not a huge amount of visibility so it’s trying to take off the curtains and just making it more visible for everyone.

“We do have the capabilities for Indigenous businesses within Karratha and surrounding areas so I think it’s really important to showcase and market the amazing things that we have going on for Indigenous businesses in this area.”
