Nickol Hawks outlast Rec Club at Bulgarra Oval in round nine of West Pilbara Cricket Association

Nickol Hawks out-played Rec Club and took a three-wicket victory in round nine of the West Pilbara Cricket Association 40-over competition at Bulgarra Oval on Saturday.

Rec Club batted first against the Hawks, with Matt Michael (39) and Liam O’Neil (44) sharing a 79-run partnership for the second wicket, but once those two were removed, the scoring slowed up.

Nickol Hawks jumped on the momentum change and restricted Rec Club 7-148 off their 40 overs, with Muhammad Uzair, Aziz Saghar and Ali Hassan each picking up two wickets.

After losing two early wickets, Sankar Thiagarajan (51) and Manu Raghuvanshi (62 not out) did most of the scoring for the Hawks as they made the total with three overs to spare.

Richard Anderson, Liam O’Neil and Bradley Beier each picked up a wicket for Rec Club.

The Dampier Taverners 1 hosted Dampier Taverners 2, with Taverners 2 winning the toss and batting first.

The Taverners 2 lost regular wickets during their innings, with only Ryan Trewin (24), Jesse Adams (14) and David Gunson (18 not out) reaching double figures on their way to 113.

Mark Saunders was the pick of the bowlers with 3-18.

Taverners 1 started their chase well with Dan Harding (31) and Cameron Gordon (24) before Taverners 2 struck back with five quick wickets before Mark Saunders chipped in with (25 not out) to see the Taverners 1 home with 13 overs left.

David Gunson picked up 3-29 for Taverners 2.

The Karratha Kats hosted Pegs Creek Crabs 2 with the Crabs batting first, but it was the Kats who came out firing with the ball as only Boston Geikie (11) and Jess Creighton (10no) reached double figures as the Crabs were bowled out for 55.

Michael James picked up 4-23 off his eight overs.

The Kats made light work of the chase in 12 overs.

Pegs Creek Crabs 1 batted first against Baynton Lions, with Tharindu Ilanperuma (52) and Matt Smith (33) getting the Crabs off to a good start before the Lions struck with a couple of wickets.

Lachlan Seabrook (52), Aaron Faneco (32) and Brandon Riddell (29no) all made quick runs as the Crabs made 7-275 off their 40 overs.

Yogesh Singh took 3-36 for the Lions.

The Lions’ chase started well, with Nick Hegan (40) and Amol Vikar (44) sharing an 86-run opening partnership, but once the Crabs were able to remove those two, the wickets kept falling as the Lions were bowled out for 182.

Lachlan Seabrook picked up 6-31 off his eight overs.
