Pilbara netballers showed off their skill and talent when they travelled 1600km to dominate a State netball competition which they proudly left as the only team undefeated. The Netball WA State Cup Competition was held at the Gold Netball Centre in Perth from October 8-10 with the North West Open team — made up of players from Karratha, Port Hedland, Tom Price, Newman and Broome — winning all six of their games to be crowned NWA State Cup open champions. It was held to create a platform for all players, coaches, and umpires from the Aboriginal all stars, metro association teams and regional representative teams to come together and compete. The competition was also a chance for athletes, umpires and coaches to gain selection points towards progression into the next level of programs as part of the Netball WA Competition Pathway. The competition also saw junior players from Karratha in three divisions. The 18U team was captained by Alycia Buenaflor and Tyla Drew and the 16U squad featured Braxton Karaka, Kendall Sherrard, Isabella Morris and Georgie Third, while 14U included Karratha’s Tia Gagliano, Ava Fountain, Alice Tunstead, Lexi Strange and Lauryn Ieremia. A contingent of players from Tom Price also made the squads with Abby Kennington selected for the U14 side and Marise Anderson, Lace Leki and Beige Howard-Ferris taking part in the U16 squad. Valcelia Ngatai, Kaia Rau and Ellie Kennington were chosen to represent Tom Price in the U18 team.
