Fresh off showcasing her designs at New York Fashion Week, a Pilbara creative is once again making waves, collaborating with a top Australian musician for a shirt design.

Bobbi Lockyer has designed a shirt for Australian multi-ARIA award-winning singer-songwriter Jessica Mauboy as part of the Aus Music T-shirt Day in November.

Mauboy, who was a runner-up in Australian Idol when she was 16, made the announcement on Facebook on September 21.

“I’m so excited to collaborate with the super-talented Bobbi Lockyer on a design for this year’s #ausmusictshirtday in November,” she posted on Facebook.

“$5 from each sale goes to Support Act to raise funds for Australian artists, roadies and music workers in need.”

Since her time on Australian Idol, Mauboy has picked up a recording deal, represented Australia at Eurovision in 2018, and even dipped her toes into acting, starring in Bran Nue Dae, The Sapphires and The Secret Daughter.

Lockyer meanwhile is continuing to make waves in the fashion world.

The Kariyarra, Ngarluma, Nyul Nyul and Yawuru designer had her work grace New York Fashion Week earlier this month as part of the Flying Solo Ones to Watch runway.

Lockyer took to Facebook to thank all her friends, family and community for supporting her.

“What an incredible feeling it was to do my mob proud and stand up there on the NYFW runway repping my culture and our peoples stories and art,” she said.

“I am so proud of this collection. New York has been an experience I’ll never forget.”

For Lockyer it is another addition to a stellar 12 months during which she was announced the 2021 NAIDOC Artist of the Year and had her fashion designs at the 2022 Afterpay Australian Fashion Week in Sydney in May.
