Rio extends counselling
A mining giant has extended its counselling services across the North West to assist communities, local suppliers and contractors.
Rio Tinto announced it was extending its employee assistance program as part of its COVID-19 relief package.
As part of the extended program, counselling services would be run through BSS Employee Assistance, and would be available in regional towns including Roebourne, Karratha, Port Hedland, Tom Price, and Kununurra. Through the expanded service, local suppliers, category 2 and 3 contractors; and direct family members, who live in the same home, could apply for the service.
The counselling would be offered to those experiencing a variety of mental health issues, such as stress, depression, anxiety and addiction.
Rio Tinto vice-president health, safety and environment Cecile Thaxter said the coronavirus pandemic had been a difficult time for people in Rio’s workforce and communities.
