The Kransky Sisters bring quirky tales and kitchen sink tunes to Karratha for Red Earth Arts Festival

Bringing a mirage of curious real-life stories and musical covers played on the kitchen pot, toilet brush, keyboard, musical saw, tuba and duelling tambourines — to name just a few — The Kransky Sisters are headed to Karratha for the Red Earth Arts Festival. Catching up with Pilbara News ahead of their May 16 show, Mourne Kransky said she and her sisters were revving up their little red Morris for the long drive to the Pilbara — packed to the roof with musical curiosities and a few creature comforts. “We’ll be telling stories of things from our home life in rural Queensland and with no doubt, on the trip over there, there’ll be some adventure tales to tell,” she said. “We have wonderful songs to play. We’re bringing our instruments such as a tuba, musical saw, keyboard, guitars, tambourines and toilet brush. We’ve got them packed on the Morris as we speak. “We have songs by Tina Turner, Pink Floyd, Lady Gaga, Sia, Gotye, AC/DC, Roy Orbison and more.” Marking the sisters’ first time in the Pilbara, Mourne said she had her heart set on a couple of quintessential Pilbara experiences. “We’re looking forward to having a look around town and finding a bakery and getting a nice cake,” she said. With their sheltered view of the world, deadpan comic timing and utterly charming DIY musical style, The Kransky Sisters promise a show that feels like a night out with your delightfully eccentric old aunts — if your aunts were musical geniuses with a thing for gothic make-up and ABBA covers.
