Two police officers have been injured and taken to hospital after attempting to investigate a noise complaint in Wickham. Roebourne officers attended a noise complaint in Wickham on the weekend of May 14 to 15 and upon arrival saw up to 30 people behaving in a disorderly manner. Roebourne officer-in-charge acting senior sergeant Deb Andrews told Ngaarda Media that attendees were highly intoxicated. “Officers went in to chat to a number of people and they started to have bottles and other projectiles thrown at them,” she said “Two of the officers were seriously injured and taken to hospital, one arrest was made at the time but police did have to disengage then and there due to the danger they were placed in.’’ Acting Sen. Sgt Andrews said one of the officers had a serious concussion while the other received bruising to his head after bottles were thrown at them. She said shortly after police disengaged, 21 officers from Roebourne and Karratha police attended the incident. Acting Sen. Sgt Andrews said the property was rented through the Department of Communities and police would be following up with the Department. “It was actually a liquor restricted premises which is of grave concern to us considering the amount of liquor that was there,” she said.
