US Ambassador visits Pilbara as part of five-day WA tour

The Pilbara had a special visit from the most senior US Government representative in Australia recently as part of a five-day trip to WA.
US Ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy travelled to the Pilbara earlier this month, as part of a trip from Port Hedland to Kalgoorlie, to learn about the State’s mining industry, innovations in space technology, and Aboriginal culture and history.
The ambassador visited Port Hedland to experience innovations in green technology with Fortescue Future Industries and learn about FFI’s ambitious decarbonisation plans.
“Decarbonising mining and shipping industries will be transformative for the global climate effort. I’m proud to advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to find innovative solutions with friends and partners worldwide,” she said.
Meanwhile, in the Goldfields, the ambassador toured WA company Lynas’ operations at Laverton and Kalgoorlie — the only producer of scale of separated rare earths outside of China.
She also joined students at Clontarf Aboriginal College for a yarning circle to hear directly from young Indigenous Australians.
“At all of these regional sites, I could see the US contributions to Western Australia’s economy including through equipment and machinery,” she said.
“It was especially exciting to meet with Lynas’ leadership, being the only Australian Stock Exchange-listed resources company with both a female CEO and chairperson.”
Ms Kennedy began her tenure at the US Embassy Canberra on July 25, 2022.
