Artist captures unexpected scenes in lino-art exhibit
Port Hedland artist Amanda Firenze Pentney’s unique lino-cut art will feature in an upcoming exhibition at the Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery.
The exhibition, titled My Town, focuses on local places that are important to Pentney and the stories associated with them.
Pentney said she wasn’t looking for typically beautiful scenes for her exhibition, rather places that stirred her memories and emotions.
“My exhibition will feature works on places that might not be expected – the Kmart entrance for example, some graffiti in the Port Hedland Boulevard Shopping Centre and the Big Red Car in the Gratwick Aquatic Centre,” she said.
“Because of this local element of my exhibition I decided to approach local businesses featured in the artworks to see if they wished to contribute to the exhibition in exchange for an artwork.
“To my great delight, Kmart South Hedland jumped straight on board, followed not long after by the Town of Port Hedland through a Community Funding and Donations grant.”
Pentney said it was wonderful that despite the economic downturn, there were still groups prepared to support a local art exhibition.
“I was thrilled to receive the contributions towards the exhibition from Kmart South Hedland and the Town of Port Hedland which, when combined with ongoing support from FORM / Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery, has greatly helped me cover material costs associated with the exhibition,” she said.
The My Town exhibition opens Friday, June 24 at the Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery.
