Hedland's Norwest Car Club members thundered down the highway last month in 1960s Monaros, rocket-looking Chevrolets and even VW Kombis as they gathered at Whim Creek Pub for a feed and a beer.

Up to 40 Hedland enthusiasts prepared for the May 24 cruise by polishing chrome and shining interiors before hitting the road to meet around 25 of their Karratha car club counterparts at Whim Creek.

Club president James Marshall said numbers were slightly down because of the wet conditions threatening to ruin some of the hard polishing work done the night before, but the day was still great fun.

"We organised with Whim Creek's manager and they put on some platters of food for us," he said.

"(So) everyone enjoyed a good lunch and it was a good day."

With club members already owning everything from power-packed Fords and Holdens to offbeat French Citroens and VW Kombis, Mr Marshall said the group was keen to welcome anyone with a passion for cars to join in the fun.

"Any make, any model - it doesn't matter, we are open to everyone," he said.

The club will next gather at the Hedland Riders Association's Big Boys Toys annual bike and car show to be held on the Hedland Senior High School oval on June 13 from 10am-5pm.
