Fortescue Metals Group’s annual community support grants have opened for organisations within the Pilbara.

In its ninth year, the grant program supports a variety of community initiatives with a focus on education and training, Aboriginal engagement, health and wellness, community safety, community involvement, economic development and environmental responsibility. Fortescue general manager port and rail, Fernando Pereira said the program provided successful applicants up to $5000 of funding for initiatives that benefited the Pilbara.

“Fortescue is committed to ensuring the communities in which we operate benefit from our growth and development,” he said.

“The grants program is just one of the ways we invest in our communities.” Thanks to Fortescue’s community grants, the program last year covered the cost of new uniforms and registration fees for the Martu women of the Parnpajinya community in Newman to participate in the local East Pilbara softball competition.
