Former cop set to face trial

A former Pilbara police officer is set to face trial charged with two counts of common assault and one of reckless driving.

First Class Constable Shane Byers, 27, was charged with the offences by Internal Affairs Unit officers after an alleged incident in South Hedland on June 11.

The case’s second mention was at South Hedland Magistrates court today where a not guilty plea was entered, and an order for disclosure was requested for 8 weeks time.

The Magistrate has allocated a trial on all matters to be held on March 13 at the South Hedland Magistrates Court where Mr Byers will attend via video link.
